The NASRF is a registered 501 (c) (3) non profit organization with the following Mission Statement:
1. To promote and provide free expert educational resources to the public about skin, hair and nail conditions. This information will provide the public with a greater knowledge and awareness of skin condition, its prevention and management. The latest scientific advancements in the field will also be highlighted.
2. To conduct scientific research and fund young scientists (college and medical students), dermatology investigators and researchers to undertake innovative research projects for the improvement and/or development of novel and effective skin therapies.
3. To promote educational programs and scholarly exchange of scientific information amongst the public, healthcare sectors and their representatives.
It states on its research page the following about rosacea:
"Unlike other research foundations, NASRF is not restricted to academic research alone. NASRF academic research presently includes Skin Cancer/Melanoma, Acne, Rosacea and Psoriasis. The foundation also conducts clinical research on a wide array of topics which directly relates to consumer behaviors, consumer products and product safety."
However the Form 990 however reveals that in 2007 the NASRF received in donations $83,216 and spent $74,264 in expenses. There is no indication that any of the expenses were for research. Here is what the majority of the expenses were for:
